The GoFlex for Mac ultra-portable drive will come in 1TB ($199.99) and 1.5TB ($249.99) capacities. There are four flavors of Seagate GoFlex drives. If you don’t intend to use the drive with other adapters it can be reformatted and the software is not needed. The Seagate Thunderbolt adapter driver is only needed if you are using 3TB or 4TB drives with the Thunderbolt adapter and plan to change drives with other GoFlex adapters (such as USB or FireWire). Included Seagate Dashboard management tool allows for easy management. Automatic Backup The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk external drive offers automatic, continuous backup of your data, and secures your backed up files to protect your privacy with powerful encryption software.

USB 3.0 drive is also backward compatible with PC’s USB 2.0 ports.

The GoFlex for Mac drives can also be used to transfer files with PCs as long as users install a free HFS+ driver on their PCs. The drives are nearly identical to the GoFlex drives that have been available at retail for quite some time, except they are HFS+ formatted, allowing Mac users to start using them without having to go through the hassle of reformatting them. Seagate includes paragon software for mac users so that you can natively read and write to the drive, but it seams El crapitan breaks compatibility with the version they included.Seagate announced the GoFlex for Mac collection of external drives at CES 2011. Out of the box, all external drives are formatted as NTFS for use with windows which OSX cannot natively write to. To give you a better idea of what is going on, keep in mind all hard drives are the same. Then click partition or start or whatever, and move your files back.

Once thats done just open up disk utility and select your goflex drive and go to partition, select 1 partition and make sure its a mac osx journaled partition, then click options and GUID and click ok. You NEEED to backup your files first though because they WILL be lost.

However, you will never need software drivers to use the drive with your mac. Just keep in mind if you use this drive with windows computers too, they will need paragon software to work as well so its probably not a great Idea if you are constantly switching between windows and mac. As long as your using a mac, the best way to use an external drive is to format it as hfs+ on GUID.

The version seagate included with the freeagent goflex drives is likely outdated by now and incompatible with el crapitan. This is a piece of software that allows you to read and write windows formatted drives on your mac, or vice versa. The first thing you can do is install/upgrade paragon. I had to downgrade back to yosemite due to plugin issues, but I did have it working in El crapitan.ġ. If your still having issues, I have a freeagent goflex drive and have it working fine.
